The Christian Men's Job Corps of Gregg County is part of the Christian Job Corps of Gregg County, a 501c3 nonprofit located in Longview, Tx. We encourage men to know Jesus while equipping them with job and life skills in a supportive, Christ-centered environment. Although the name “Job Corps” highlights the employment aspect of our ministry, the mission of the CMJC encompasses far more than the professional growth of our participants. Our program can be divided into two major parts: To prepare men for the job market and to encourage them to know and follow Jesus in their everyday lives.

Christian Men’s Job Corps is based on faith in God. Our mission is to share the love of God in Christ as we walk with men in friendship, in fellowship, in prayer, in Bible reading, and in life and job skills study. We are a compassion ministry of national WMU https://wmu.com/. We equip men, in a Christian context, for life and employment. Through CMJC ministries men gain hope for their future.

The Christian Men’s Job Corps of Gregg County is referred to as a compassion ministry because there is, in most cities, the need for a Christian agency that will walk along with men who need a job or who need a better job. Christian Men’s Job Corps of Gregg County seeks to be and do that very thing.

**What CMJC does…**

CMJC exists for Christian men to empower other men to become spiritual leaders in their homes and communities. Distinctives of CMJC programs are Bible study, mentoring, and job skills training. “Just as iron sharpens iron, so shall one man sharpen another.” Proverbs 27:17

This program offers free 10 week classes twice a year with ongoing mentoring to help you succeed.

During each 10-week semester we offer the participant 10 weeks of classes that meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, making a total of 20 class meetings. 15 of these class meetings are dedicated to the Jobs for Life curriculum and the remaining five class meetings are dedicated to money management, introduction to the Bible, and computer skills.

This ministry is free.

You do not have to be a Christian to participate.
No high school equivalency is required.
Ages 18 and up are welcome to apply.

Founded in 1995, the Foundation uses the funds it raises to operate three separate grant programs, all of which are designed to increase academic achievement and enhance the academic programs offered by the Longview Independent School District.  The three grant programs are the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Grant Program, the Campus Initiative Grant Program, and the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant Program. To date, the Foundation has raised and returned $1,086,082.00 to Longview ISD educators and classrooms through its three grant programs and has funded over $190,000 scholarships for LHS seniors.

- Scholarships: The Lobo Memorial Scholarship Fund within the Foundation offers $1,000 scholarships to Longview High School seniors who plan to attend two-year or four-year colleges or universities and technical schools.  Students may apply each January for scholarships awarded in May.

- All LISD teachers, counselors, librarians, and nurses are eligible to submit grants through the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Grant Program, requesting up to $2,500 for classroom materials, equipment, programs, and projects that enhance those already provided by the district.
- All LISD principals and their designees are eligible to submit grants through the Campus Initiative Grant Program, requesting up to $5,000 for materials, equipment, programs, and projects that improve academic achievement and opportunity for all students campuswide.
- Fourth and fifth grade teachers and middle school teachers are eligible to submit grants through the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant Program, requesting up to $7,000 for travel to venues beyond Longview that offer hands-on learning experiences for students that cannot be replicated in the classroom.  These learning experiences must be directly linked to classroom instruction and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for the grade level and subject area.

Grants & Scholarships

The Longview ISD Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt public corporation operating independently under a board of directors who serve without compensation. Members of the Foundation's Board of Directors represent a cross section of the community and are dedicated to our students and educators and their success.

The Foundation was founded in 1994 to provide additional funds beyond the normal operating budget for Longview ISD teachers, counselors, librarians and students. Donations to the Foundation are maintained locally and used to begin and/or enhance innovative academic programs and projects. Through the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Program, the Foundation improves student achievement, fosters innovation, and supports educators. By requesting contributions, the Foundation promotes community involvement from individuals, alumni, businesses, corporations, and school and civic organizations.

The Foundation also sponsors the annual Lamplighter Awards Banquet to honor educators and the students whose lives the educators have touched. All proceeds from this event benefit the Foundation's Great Rewards for Great Ideas Program, the Campus Initiative Grant Program, and the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant Program.

Since 1996, the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Grant Program has funded 770 grants, returning $827,092.75 to LISD’s classrooms and enabling innovative teachers, counselors, librarians, and nurses to create new educational programs or to enhance existing ones so they can provide the best instruction possible to all students.  These grants have funded programs and projects for students of all ability levels in a variety of disciplines.  In addition to strengthening academics, the grants have also funded projects in music, art, technology, career education, STEAM education, character education, health and physical education, and guidance and counseling.
 
The Foundation has also funded fifty Campus Initiative Grants for a total of $151,265.68.  The Foundation believes that this grant program, targeting overall campus improvement, complements the Foundation’s annual Great Rewards for Great Ideas Program.

In fall 2018, the Longview ISD Foundation began the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant, named in the memory of the late Mr. John Harrison who served on the Longview ISD school board for over forty years.  The Academic Field Trip Grant provides funding for up to $7,000 for fourth and fifth grade students and middle school students so they can travel for learning experiences that reinforce and expand what they have learned in the classroom.  The Foundation has funded fourteen John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grants for fourth and fifth grade and middle school students for a total of $61,733.74.   Students have extended their classroom learning at the Perot Museum in Dallas, NASA in Houston, the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, the Bullock Texas State HIstory Museum in Austin, the Texas Military Forces Museum in Austin, the state capitol building in Austin, the Stephen F. Austin State University Planetarium, iFly, Sky Ranch, the Caldwell Zoo, Texas State Technical Institute, and the SciPort Discovery Center.

 Through its three grant programs, the Longview ISD Foundation has returned a grand total of $1,042,092.19 to LISD classrooms and campuses in its twenty-eight-year history.

The Longview ISD Foundation also offers continuing education scholarships to Longview ISD educators who wish to remain in the classroom and provide direct services to students.  The Foundation especially wants to help educators who are pursuing advanced degrees and certification in critical teaching shortage areas, such as bilingual education, science, and math.  The  Foundation also wants to help educators who are teaching in the district's STEM and STEAM education programs.

The Longview ISD Foundation also offers college and technical school scholarships to Longview High School seniors, awarding five to eight $1,000 scholarship per year through the Foundation's Lobo Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The Foundation has awarded a total of $191,000 in scholarships, proudly helping students continue their education and success.

- El hospicio es un enfoque especializado de atención que combina un equipo de experiencia médica y compasión por quienes enfrentan una enfermedad terminal. El hospicio es un beneficio de Medicare, Medicaid y algunos seguros privados, que le brinda paz, comodidad y control tanto a usted como a su familia.

Monetary donations are always needed to help provide eyeglasses, eye exams, send special needs children to summer camp, support Scouting, provide scholarships to high school seniors, and help with hunger relief.

**Job Openings/Volunteer opportunities:** Volunteers are needed quarterly for our Adopt a Street cleanup. Please give us a call or email us for more information.

**Upcoming events:** Lions meet weekly at 6:00 at Community Connections 501 Pine Tree Road Conference  Room A. Visitors are always welcome.

Low-cost spay and neuter clinic, Preventive care for pets

**History of APL**

The Animal Protection League (the League) was formed in 1984 in the state of Texas as an animal rescue and adoption agency. In May 1996, the League was reorganized with an additional goal of operating a low cost spay/neuter and vaccination program located in Sulphur Springs, Texas. With the successful implementation of the spay/neuter and vaccination program, the League began to expand services to other communities with the operation of a transfer program from surrounding counties. A Meadows Foundation grant in 2000 provided the League with funds to purchase a cargo van (The Critter Getter) to facilitate the transfer program.  

As a result of the transfer initiative, a satellite program was opened in Longview, Texas in September 2003. Since the reorganization of the League the two programs have sterilized more than 200,000 companion animals from a 25 county, three state regions. The programs are open to the public six days a week and spay/neuters 110-145 animals per day of operation. A major goal of the League’s low cost pet sterilization programs is to end the excessive “littering” and the needless euthanasia of animals in rural East Texas. 

Even though the League was operating three stationery clinics, the need for low-cost spay/neuter services was still greater than ever.  In January 2012, we purchased a 20 foot surgical trailer.  This allowed our staff to travel to surrounding communities.   The mobile unit program was so successful that we have now have a total of four surgical trailers that travel to 27 East Texas communities.

The League does not receive any public funds. It instead operates on small, individual donations, fundraising efforts within its communities, and from fees generated by sterilization services.  

The League’s low cost pet sterilization programs offer a number of services to the public, some of which include:  

A pet sterilization voucher system with area animal shelters and independent animal organizations. Through this municipal coupon system, the League sterilizes animals from more than ten area shelters to help new owners comply with Texas law. Additional, the League redeems pet sterilization vouchers sold by area animal welfare organizations.  

A low cost vaccination program offered to our communities. Three days per week, the League offers vaccinations at a reduced cost to citizens in our communities. This helps to promote animal health as well as protecting the community from the deadly rabies virus.  

The League’s many programs positively influence East Texas through community outreach and volunteerism. The League’s pet sterilization facilities include stainless steel pet holding cages and a sterile surgery area for its contracted veterinarians. The League’s pet sterilization programs are self-sufficient, but do not generate sufficient revenue to grow existing programs. The League relies on the generosity of the community to help advance our goals.
